A Sad Scene

This was probably the saddest day for me while working at my internship. Landscaper Hugo Mercado, drowned in the retention pond close to where he was working in Woodstock, Ill. Investigators believe but are not yet sure, that a seizure contributed to his death. It's my guess that when he fell in, his co-workers got to him late because they were working elsewhere and/or their machinery was loud enough that they didn't hear anything. Mercado's co-workers sit in the grass while police discuss the incident.

Shortly after I arrived, people who I think were family members or friends came to see the site where he died. They walked away crying and I had to stand there and take their picture as they made their way to their cars. I felt like a vulture. I didn't like myself for a couple of days after that.
